Does The Size Of Your Bridal Party Really Matters?

Most brides never stop to think about the size of their wedding when choosing their bridesmaids because the emphasis is mostly placed on having people their close to participating in the wedding. While that is the goal everyone you're close to may not be able to participate and you'll have to balance between the size of your wedding versus the size of your bridal party.

The size of your bridal party should be proportionate to the size of your wedding and the size of your wedding will also dictate how formal it should be.

Formal weddings tend to be large, so you can have between 6-10 bridesmaid, the same amount for groomsmen along with your best man, maid/matron of honour, flowers girl and ring bearer. For semi-formal weddings which tends to be medium sized, you can have 2-5 bridesmaid, the same amount for groomsmen, along with your best man, maid/matron of honour, flowers girl and ring bearer.

Informal weddings which are usually very small can have your maid/matron of honour, best man, 1 bridesmaid, 1 groomsman with no flowers girl or ring bearer. For an informal wedding which will have enough guests for it to be more of a medium size instead of small, you can have your maid/matron of honour, best man, 2 bridesmaid, 2 groomsmen with your flowers girl and ring bearer.

This is only a guide and there are no rules that say you must have the same amount of groomsmen as your bridesmaid. Also bear in mind that the size of the wedding isn't the only factor that governs whether a wedding is formal or semi-formal and this is only stating how you should try to make the bridal party proportionate to the size of your guest list. A clear example of a bridal party not being proportionate is to have 4 bridesmaid and 4 groomsmen along with your maid/matron of honour, best man, flowers girl and ring bearer for a guest list of 50 persons. Remember that your guest list includes your bridal party, so having 10 people standing at the aisle with you for the ceremony or having 10-12 people sitting at the head table in front of 38 other guest would really be disproportionate.
