Do I Need To Send Save-the-Date Cards For My Wedding

Congrats, you're engaged, it's time to start planning and sending save the date cards would be your first announcement to guests about your upcoming wedding plans.

Save the date's can be sent around 6-8 months ahead as a form of pre-invitation to an upcoming wedding to guests that resides oversees, because they'll need to make travel and hotel arrangements, along with saving towards the trip and getting time off for a few days. It's also advised that you do the same for your other guests, especially if you'll be having your wedding in a holiday period because some persons make other arrangements for their holiday and you won't necessarily know which guests will be doing so. In general, send to all your guests just to cover all aspect.

The card should state the wedding date, couple's name and location and remember to state "invitation will follow" because it's not an invitation. No need to include a venue for location, just include the city or town, but for destination weddings you'll need to also include the country.

First you'll need to create a guest list, since it's actually only for persons you'll be inviting to your wedding. The card doesn't need to be in your wedding colours or theme or even need to be an actual card. They can be virtual cards that you send in emails but these may have certain set backs, such as; you don't have all your guest's email address, some persons have changed their email so they won't receive a card, some cards will be sent to the email spam folder so guests won't know they've come in, some persons don't have an email address to begin with like maybe your grandparents or some persons may forget about the email since it's not a physical card that they can have in plain view. So that's why it would be better to actually have cards that you mail to your guests, along with the fact that the more formal your wedding will be, having a physical card will also speak to that.

Save the date's is just giving an heads up as to your upcoming nuptials, as it cannot replace the invitation because it serves a different purpose. It's essentially asking your guests to hold this date on their calendar and because wedding etiquette dictates that an official invitation be sent weeks ahead, that will still need to follow. So yes, you can't go wrong sending save the dates because you want your special day reserved and planned for by all your guests.
